Dryer Vent Cleaning Process

We begin with an evaluation of proper venting and material. We proceed to clean the entire vent run from inside of the building to the exhaust on the outside. We also clean the dryer lint trap and exhaust. We reattach the vent and test run the dryer.
We create a written report for the customer with suggestions, if any for more optimum venting.

Proper Venting

For proper venting, according to Article 504.6, per the IMC, the domestic clothes dryer cuts should be a maximum length of 25 feet. This should be reduced by 2.5 ft. for each 45 degree bend and a 5 ft. reduction for a 90 degree bend. The duct diameter should be at a minimum of 4 inches and have a smooth interior finish.
Proper venting should be made of aluminum or galvanized metal, not vinyl or plastic. All male fittings should be pointed in the direction of air flow. Metal tape should be used at all connections.

Signs that your dryer vent may need cleaning:

  • Clothes are still damp at end of drying cycle
  • Dryer gets excessively hot
  • Excess lint on and around dryer area

Dryer Vent Case Study: Third floor apartment. The client had ceased using his dryer because it heated up and wouldn’t dry clothes properly. He had to haul his wet laundry to the apartment laundry room. SDW went in and sent the camera into the vent hose via the apartment level. They encountered three separate blockages of lint, as well as vent wall accumulation. As you can see in the before and after photos, the clumps were removed as well as the interior wall buildup. The client has happily resumed drying his clothes at home.

Introductory prices start at $50. per vacant unit and $90. per occupied unit.
